Compulsory new laws coming for vehicles in South Africa

seems like a win, expect the motor manufacturing industry to push back and get what they want though

they've got guavamint by the short and curlies, probably also have quite a few of the corrupt filth in their pockets even, that's why we still have APDP (previously known as MIDP) raising car prices in South Africa for no real benefit

Just as long as people understand that this will dramatically increase the price of entry level cars.

Safety vs utility is always a trade off. You could make the roads extremely safe if you decreased the speed limit to 5km/h, but there's a point where society accepts a level of risk in order to actually function.

I wouldn't say dramatically. We've seen no increase in the entry level Starlet for instance now that it's more comparable with safety standards elsewhere. Manufacturers will still compete, they will comply if made to do so, every one of them will do the least if they are allowed to by either the law or the market. If South Africans were still willing to buy the Citi Golf in decemt numbers, it would still be on sale.
