For a shirt, no more than R400. Jerseys are a whole other thing, and I already have a 2019 Rugby World Cup one. I have no need to get a new one. So... For an authentic one, the same as what the Springboks wear, no more than R 1 200.

Sadly, all merchandise comes at a premium.

The union actually makes money off it. Say what you will, but without TV revenue, ticket sales, and merch sales, the Boks will fall down the wayside very quickly.

I buy something every few years as a matter of principle, since I don't subscribe to DSTV.

I'm not interested in the new styles of rugby shirts. I much prefer the older heavy cotton type and I've got a few older Canterbury ones which I wear now and again on match day.

Dredged out one of my older ones on Saturday because it was cold and rainy. A bit faded but still really cool. Even got the old Lion lager sponsor logo on it

American major sports have it the correct way. The NFL doing it best.

The NFL has ''locked'' designs for 5 years, where they are only allowed to make very minor changes to their home and away jerseys.

NBA teams have to have ''locked'' home and away jerseys for at least 2 years. They can introduce a different retro jersey every year or and 1 or 2 other special uniforms, but the home and away jerseys have to be locked for 2 years.

MLB teams are allowed to use 5 different jerseys every season, but one of them has to be a continuation of a jersey that was used in the previous season, so there is a good chance that one of the jerseys you buy will be up to date for 5 years.
