In recent years, average postpaid tariff increases have exceeded inflation. Previously, they were below or near South Africa's headline inflation rate.

They said 3 years contract to subsidize prices but if you look at their prices for smartphones nothing is cheaper for R150 monthly or atleast R200. On top of that they will add insurance fees

Hahahaha the contract prices are even more expensive now on a 36 month contract than they were on a 24 month contract for a flagship phone just a few years ago.

Nobody in their right mind should go to contract now. Using an MVNO and buying the handset (using credit if you need to) seems to be the better bet in pretty much all cases.

36 months contract also means that you get three mid contract increases.

Not a good idea to reduce your disposable income by locking yourself into a 3 year contract to purchase the latest phone for >1k + with a shyt data and call plan. Just take the punch of buying the a decent device cash or take a smaller knock by buying a good device across three payments with Payflex.

After 20+ years on contract I just switched away to air mobile (month to month contract) recently. Way more value for money and getting phones cash every 2 years instead of 3 for the same money while getting 5 times the data. A no brainer. No idea why anyone would be on contract anymore. They used to be amazing like 20 years ago. Practically got a free phone every 20 to 24 months. Then the en****ification of this era started and gradually eroded all the good.

I have bought my own phone and chopped and changed sim cards depending on who is the cheapest for the last decade. It is the way to go. The wife is currently on her last contract; I will not be renewing it for her again either. First thing I did was cancel the insurance much to Vodacoms disgust.
