I've yet to really understand what our "government" sports bodies actually bring to the table other than complications and money draining.

I doubt if they do anything except to provide official approval of RSA and earn monies for themselves.

I know of some people in Tennis that do decent work on the ground level but unfortunately they are too honest to rise to upper levels in government organizations. Greedy pigs seem to know how to game the system.

Think that applies to all sporting "bodies" in SA. The people at the top are generally just in it for themselves and not for the sport itself.

Sports governance definitely won't improve with ex-gangster Gayton as its head. It's already been reported he has installed PA cadres at numerous bodies, who are highly unlikely to have the skills, competence and knowledge to perform their duties (besides stealing).

Yip and that includes private academies too. I have interacted (and enrolled my son in some group and some private lessons with 3 of academies - at different times) with many Tennis academies over last 6+ years and most private coaches are just there for monies and because they can't do much else except Tennis. I have enrolled myself in a Tennis instructor course out of sheer frustration. I am hoping to learn something because I actually like Tennis as a sport and would like to give back something.

In group sessions, most coaches faff around and try to push you into private coaching. And it is not like they give their best in private sessions either. I don't get the point really - As a coach, wouldn't you want your players to be best, irrespective of whether you coach in group or privately?

I only hope it is different scene in other sports.

Not really, it becomes a job and unless the "student" is really a standout player of the sport most coaches will just do the bare minimum as its not worth their time and effort in their minds.
