FNB International eSIMs

I was looking at them last week before travel (hello from Finland) but basically I’ve long given up on eSIMs and looking about for the best deal and just use Vodacom R99 for 1gb/7 days. It’s a pittance and includes using the data while sitting waiting to board in different countries during transfers etc.
 
lol you should just use Airalo or Nomad... R400 for 20GB across Europe.

I used Airalo earlier this month in the US and UK and it was ok but I prefer local sims/esims. Unfortunately the US isn't big on short term PAYG.

Looking at the UK rates for FNB and Airalo the latter seems to be cheaper.
 
The Cape Town Japan Consulate office was very efficient
Visited on Monday
Paid on Tuesday (cash)
Got visa on Friday for wife
Very polite and helpful staff
(I have UK passport, so visa not necessary)

I ditched FNB’s eSIM after trying it in France. Just stuck with a local SIM from Orange, way less hassle and better value. Unless you need data from the moment you land, local always wins.

The problem is with Vodacom's way of routing, When I was dubai my latency was around 250ms so while you get a local ip which is useful for banking but when you using the countries services like Uber it feels dead slow and sometimes does not load.

In Japan I would imagine the latency would be far worse like 400ms
 
Old thread, but I landed here while researching eSIMs for my own Japan trip. I almost went with FNB, but after reading through a few forums, I decided to go with Maaltalk instead. FNB seemed to have mixed reviews, some people had connection issues. I used Maaltalk last month and it was good,, easy setup, no headaches.

Strange. I was in the US a couple of weeks ago and used Uber on Vodacom every day without any issues at all. Even tracking the driver when you were waiting for the car was real time and instant. And since this post last year I've been in the UK, US again, Finland, Nigeria and Panama, all on Vodacom, using Uber often, and all without issue.
