The good luck is appreciated, the personal attack, not so much.
So tell me, since you appear to be pro-China, are you quite keen on all these weird Chinesium vehicles that are suddenly showing up in our land? Would you trust them? And no, I am framing this question in terms of infosec.
 
Samsung is heavily invested in South Africa and their marketing is very good. It will take a lot to compete with them.

I would like to see Google officially launch the Pixel in South Africa. I think it would give a few brands a run for their money.

It's quite obvious that you are suspicious of anything foreign or Chinese.

And all this means is that you are completely uninformed and have decided to stay uninformed.

As long as they keep the price under control, they will do fine. The vast majority of people want quality at a reasonable price, the days of high-end high-cost phones for the average income earner are gone.

I am well aware everything is made in China, including this laptop I use daily, even though it says DELL on the outside.
I am suspicious of Chinesium, I have a right to be, especially when the firmware is flaky, the manual is badly written, worse than BiankeBot on a bad day.

On-topic though, I do own a Chinese made phone, but it's not one of these. The two brands I use are Apple and Samsung, both made in China. The point to be made here is that either is reliable, not riddled with badly/cheaply made knockoff parts, and can be used as daily drivers. Then along comes this brand.. what is this? Who the heck are they?

So what if they use components from Qualcomm, Sony, etc... the fake iPhone that a relative got duped into buying also has a MediaTek processor in it.

You do know about piracy in the supply chain? Fake parts are very real. I am sitting with two items at home, that I am considering burning in the fire, they look like the real thing, but I cannot use them as I have the legit vendor tools and the tool says "BLACKLISTED ITEM"

Only the entry levels watch does not have NFC.

Why stop there?

I’d say they need to have TVs, fridges, washing machines, and dishwashers, plus produce their own memory chips before they can truly be considered a worthwhile mobile phone manufacturer.

Once upon a time Nokia and Blackberry were untouchable. Sooner or later they will be a thing of the past.

They were, but they also had CEO's and Management who were not willing to adapt to where the world was going. I don't think Apple and Samsung will make that mistake. Its not impossible, just highly unlikely.

We also don't know what the next "big thing" is on phones. They've sort of been just idling with the same features for years now.

Everything is made in China- there is a difference between made and designed in China (with all the CCP backdoors, poor code quality, and corner cutting), and product made in China to order by, say, Apple, Samsung, or another premium brand.

I welcome cheap Chinesium with open arms, be it phones, cars, you name it, bring it!

two main reasons:
  • even if I never buy it, it forces the "quality" Japanese / Korean / US / European brands to become more competitive, I mean JFC we're already living in a world where R1m cars are the norm, where that was supercar territory not that long ago, it is not inflation, it is greed, f-em!
  • the CCP should have plenty of backdoors to balance the scales with the CIA / NSA / FBI who have had backdoors for decades, even in iPhones: https://wikileaks.org/vault7/, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PRISM

I don't need those to be part of an ecosystem but whatever floats your boat.
