Ramaphosa announces 5,500 new police officers for South Africa

“For most people, the SAPS is the first they turn to when their safety is threatened, when there is an emergency or when they need to report a crime,” said Ramaphosa.

“When our people call the police, often at a moment of great distress or danger, they expect that someone will answer. They expect that help will come. They expect that the law will protect them.”

5,000 more police won't help a bit if they are all overweight, dumb and corrupt. You have to fix this snake from the top down - sadly, we just can't look to the ANC to do anything in that regard!

Contrary to popular delusions of relevancy the police are in fact the very last people most people will call in an emergency. In fact, some wouldn't even bother trying to call them.
