Yeah areas preserved but not angles. Same with equal earth. Using web maps (apart from spherical ones) all that has to change is scale when scrolling along a latitude.

Mollweide has significantly more distortion on the Pacific sides of the map, than Equal Earth.

Both the Mollweide and Equal Earth projections are equal-area (equivalent) world maps that preserve the relative sizes of landmasses, but they differ significantly in their visual appearance, shape distortion, and how they handle the poles.

There are multiple other Equal Earth projections, each with their own issues:

After a week of arguing, someone comes out with a video explaining that the entire controversy was manufactured by a journalistic headline, and the UN resolution did not endorse a specific map (only the type), and did not prohibit the Mercator protection. Unfortunately rational discussion doesn't make for popular stories...
