20 people make R1 million a week selling boiled mielies to street traders

And South Africans should thank the Olmec and Maya civilisations of modern Mexico and central America for discovering maize. Then came Columbus and ultimately "mielies" came to SA. How many Saffers know the origins of maize? Probably 0.001%.

So what you're saying is Saffers are culturally appropriating mealies?

They are from townships and hence not subject to tax.
Yep, they're also exempted from building regulations. Wish I could photograph some of the lopsided multistorey houses with tin roots popping up allover Kwa mashu.

They're actually building apartment blocks with families living in seperate units now!!!

No. I'm saying we should thank the Olmec Culture, Mayas and Columbus for bringing maize (mielies) to feed the millions with pap 'n vleis. Maize is not an endemic African crop.
