Passport booking slot shortage at banks so bad that people recommend just going to Home Affairs

They should now just rollout to Capitec. I had great success with the Smart ID application via Capitec.

For my passport renewal I had to go to Home Affairs and start a fresh application since Nedbank chowed my money twice and couldn't confirm any slot.

Surprisingly, I had a good experience at Home Affairs. Walked in not knowing you need an appointment, but they still let me in. There were queues, but they moved. All done in an hour, and despite a sign on the wall advising us to expect a 16 working day turnaround, I got mine in three days!

My flabbers were ghasted!
 
East London: booked at DHA online and could pick my time slot from any all day. The m going in today and don’t anticipate being there long.
It helps that DHA is now in a mall.
 
Had the same experience trying to get an ID a few years ago, Banks when you can actually get an appointment are great, getting the slot is the problem.

Aaaaand just arrived 20 mins early to find a massive backlog and theyre offline 🤣
 
Update back online and one of us at the Photo Booth. The lady checking bookings was struggling with the system.

Are these still SITA developed?

I reckon afternoon is the time to come.
 
And interesting, the order you show up and get confirmed is not the order you’re seen to. Ticket 44 from behind me has been serviced first. Maybe different apps, not sure
 
Have always set my appointment time to a Thursday afternoon, and never had a problem getting a slot.
Everybody is trying to book first thing in the morning on a Monday morning, and that is where the congestion is.
 
And what’s with the politicians pictures on the wall 🤣

It’s like a school year book lol. In two places nogal. The president, Leon, and two other okes. It’s like being in 1970s Lydia or Iraq.
 
Hahaha so they have some computer voice calling people and it calls “ticket 32 to counter 8”, etc. and one random call “ticket 44 to GGH 316 EC” is that a car in the mall parking or something??

I asked about the number plate being read out occasionally. The lady just shook her head and said no it’s not supposed to 🤣
System is genuinely down now by the looks.
