The Labour Court has overturned a CCMA ruling in a dispute involving a woman who was fired from her high-paying government job for forwarding nine classified work emails.

eish, IT sees everything, if you want to steal work information, take a photo with your phone and walk out the door with it,
nobody can say anything then.

hence why I sometimes laugh at those no photography signs in certain locations, like Kitchens

I mean back in the day with film cameras it was one thing, but today when a pair of sunglasses can have a camera,
a keyfob/watch/ring has a tiny camera on it how exactly are you supposed to protect against that?

tell people to take off all their clothes and wear something completely different? I guess you could do that for high security areas,
but even then, if people want to take photos, difficult to stop them.

Generally they will use something like this to push someone out that they want out.

of course, we dont have the same laws as somewhere like the states that employment is based on "at will"
so here they have to find something creative to get rid of somebody they dont like.

Clearly she was part of the corruption. Think about it: What would she do with a listing of the personal information of thousands of grant recipients? Sell them to those that want to entice them with "cool" ways in which to spend it?

Yes and no. If the information is sensitive it won't be disclosed. If she is a whistleblower she would likely have come forward before this in which case whistleblower legislation should actually protect her.

I'm conflicted, R52k is not "well-paid", but going by the standards of our beloved guavamint it should actually read over-paid

At my place of work, i send orders to customers from my personal email.... due to the fact that when the wifi goes down, orders cannot be sent from our work email or ordering system because of restrictive firewalls, cannot hotspot, etc so we load data and send orders from our whatsapp/emails..... anything to get orders out in time to suppliers..... i work retail.

It is annoying but considering that a company can be fined millions under POPIA for information leaks then pure logic dictate you have to have an iron hand on these things.

Organisations are between a rock and a hard place...
