Eskom warns it will cut off electricity to people with solar panels if they are unsafe

How about cutting off non paying "customers"? A COC already proves an installation is safe.
ANC would lose to many votes to ever allow that to happen. The free stuff brigade is the only reason they are still in power at all. It's the common denominator between the ANC,MK and EFF, they make empty promises which the less intelligent accept at face value.

Probably a good move on Eskoms part, would just force more and more people to be self-sufficient with power.

Just make your installation "unsafe" then Eskom cuts you off, no need for lengthy and difficult disconnection processes and costs, they do it all for you, for free.
Yeah, don't threaten me with a good time. :D

Yeah, but knowing the ANC they may still try to charge you some fees, even when disconnected.

And who knows what CitiPower in Joburg could get up to ?

Once the new Na+ batteries become available, offgrid would be very viable.

Good luck to them on that front.

Battery prices still going to halve in next 5 years so it gets worse and worse for eskom as time goes on.

I agree, but a few ANC municipalities (Thaba Chweu Local Municipality) have started charging a fee (on the rates account) to residents that have solar installations.

AFAIK some organisations (AfriForum) have taken this up.

Is it R150 or less?
