New Disney+ app and R49 plan launch in South Africa

It is important to note that users’ watch histories, recommendations, and watchlists won’t carry over to the new app. The older app will remain available until 12 October 2026.
Lol and then people wonder why there's piracy. What an epic cockup.

The boring 📨 I got

We are launching a new Disney+ app on 9 September 2026, which will replace the current app. When the new app launches, you’ll be able to log in using your MyDisney account.  If your Disney+ subscription ended within the last year, you’ll still be able to log into the new app using your MyDisney account but will need to renew your subscription to start streaming again.

To allow for a seamless experience, we’ll add the mobile number you use to access Disney+ to your MyDisney account.

How your mobile number will be used
  • We will use your mobile number to verify your Disney+ subscription when you log in to the new Disney+ app for the first time
  • We may also use your mobile number to send you important updates about your Disney+ subscription
Your choices
  • After your first login to the new Disney+ app,  you can remove your mobile number from your MyDisney account at any time.  Simply visit my.disney.com and, under Account Management, update your Contact Information. You’ll still be able to sign in to Disney+ using your MyDisney email.
  • You can also opt out of receiving Disney+ service messages by SMS through Privacy Choices. If you opt out, you’ll continue to receive important service and account updates by email.
If you don’t have an active Disney+ subscription,  your mobile number will not be used to send you Disney+ service messages or verify your subscription status. You don’t need to log in to the new Disney+ app and can choose to remove your mobile number from your MyDisney account starting from 9 September 2026. Simply visit my.disney.com and, under Account Management, update your Contact Information.

If you keep your mobile number on your MyDisney account, from 9 September 2026 you’ll also be able to use it as an alternative to your MyDisney email, to log in or sign up for other services and experiences across The Walt Disney Family of Companies, such as ESPN, Walt Disney World, and more. Whenever you log in to your MyDisney account, you’ll be able to choose how you receive your one-time passcode (OTP) - by email or SMS - giving you flexibility and control over how your account is accessed and secured

Got this notification tonight. You're allowed to use the old app till next month, but if you don't use the new app in three days you loose your subscription. O_o

Disney, Netflix and Prime all have 90% trash content imo. Pity the kids don't agree though.

The only subscription I enjoy paying for is YouTube premium.
so paying Youtube for AI slop? as Youtube is actively trying to get "real" Content creators of youtube, and doing nothing, but making hollow threads about the AI Bs being posted there.

Also Brave browser/Firefox with Ublock or Youtube Morphe/Revance does the same as Premium and cost $0

So that seems to be what you want. The algorithm is feeding you what you look for

New app ui is not that bad. (On iOS)

But I’m see a few bugs and app crashes.
