I presume that anyone earning R60K and above would already be on medical aid ? Why would they not be ?

I mean - who earning that much doesn't have medical aid ?

I think what some don't realise is that at the government hospitals you pay according to your means so if you earn 60k pm then you will have to pay the full price.

So its stupid not to have a hospital plan.

And remember, if you force people into medical aid, they will have to pay extra, because if you don't have continuous coverage, you have to in perpetuity pay extra per month.

Some people just lack common sense/ability to apply their minds, I know a guy in the +R60k/pm bracket who refuses to get medical aid yet spends money like water on partying and cars.

I really didn't know this. I mean we could do it ourselves by keeping money aside but that would be useful for day to day and not hospital plan.

One accident & one small operation (happened last year) and all such savings would be wiped out in no time.

Probably just setting themselves up to take money from everyone through the NHI scam. You will automatically be on the system unless you can prove you already have Medical Aid, although then again, I expect them to force everyone onto their NHI whether they already have private Medical Aid or not. Another money making racket.

My dad was in intensive care for a few weeks and the bills came to over 3 million. Not having medical aid, even if you try to self-insure is just stupid.
