Up until now the guavament has been partially paying for the price increase that is directly related to Senior-Moment Cheeto's idiocy with Iran.

Said "paying" came from ... you guessed it.... tax funding. So what is being stated is - pay via more tax or pay the actual price at the pump.

That being said, we *had* a strategic reserve in place for precisely this contingency. Guess what happened to it. Go on. Guess.

Because if there wasn't so much stealing and corruption everywhere else they wouldn't need to be scraping the bottom of the barrel everywhere and overcharging for petrol at the pumps.

It's an overall systemic issue, not only with fuel.

Not for the "actual price' given that they didn't change the BFP calculation all it did was reduce the amount of tax the government collected off each litre of fuel.

False choice as usual. They can drop the 25% tariff for electric vehicles tomorrow. That takes the cost of an entry level EV to the R250k range. This can apply to trucks and taxis as well.

And it's not like Eskom cannot deal with the demand. If anything they would be very happy with lots of people plugging in their cars at night

You may want to go back and re-read what you wrote or go back to school for English lessons. The government didn't "fund" fsck all, even partially.

At best they created a further financial clusterfsck due to a reduction in the fuel levy, but they will kick that can down the road as far as possible until it eventually blows up in their faces again.
