South Africans are being tracked online

It is not only "cookies" that are being used to track you. Everyone is being tracked today. Tracking can be reduced, but not wholly mitigated. Not all privacy schemes are as private as they seem in the policy narrative.

Blind trust is all that is.

I am tracked, I know and I don't care. Then there is the other me. Military Encryption. Separate device on a separate connection. Double VPN.

Good luck.
Pfft.

200 LLM agents browsing the worst sort of pr0n from the same machine as me whilst I plot the demise of world leaders.

I challenge anyone to make it through that noise.

does that mean we get relevant advertising?

Yes and no: the algorithms aren't 100% accurate, but they are more accurate than not. Advertisers also don't label their listings correctly, but that could be intended. SEO, GEO/AEO is not always best practiced, and it is also abused.

Cookies are one thing, but there are other tags, IDs, tokens, etc, and the supercookies. Cookies, all other things aside, there are user accounts.

No, not some, every single person, and it not just through cookies, which is what private companies primarily use. That VPN protects you against other people; it doesn't protect you from your own network operator and it doesn't protect you from a government that has taken a special interest in you.

I think it may, if it's a good one. In my case, Windscribe VPN uses military grade encryption and a handful of tricks. (See the blogs on their site.)

😇 I also use Winscribe, and yes, it does give you a good level of protection. Just keep in mind that it is not impenetrable to a government who has decided you need to be monitored.
