Which ZA seaside town to visit in December 2026

Cape Vidal in St Lucia isn't bad for a day trip. Might even see some wild life on your way to the beach. Accommodation sucks in St Lucia. Game reserves nearby which is cool and some really nice places to stay and animals.

Africa is Africa though. Take pepperspray with just in case.

Family enjoys Port Alfred in the Eastern Cape. Take taser gun and pepper spray.


Also checkout kidds beach. The kids enjoy kidd's beach. Not the sandy type. But quiet little spot.

Marina Beach is cool and if you can afford it, look into staying at the Sanlameer Hotel or in one of the privately rented villas.

Lots of nice beaches around there if you want variety.

We have a family place in Umzumbe, KZN south coast. Very chilled, small town vibe. Blue flag beach status with lifeguards on duty etc. There is no commerce in the town (shops are a short drive either north or south) which means no hordes of people generally - especially over festive season. I would think accomodation is generally cheaper than KZN north coast. There is the Pumula Hotel which is nice but couldn't tell you pricing and could be hard to get a booking now but I'm sure there are airbnbs etc. to be had. Also chalets available.

5 bottle stores in the main street and top quality VD from the locals. plus all the amenities....

Also some top notch shark viewing
 
If you want peace and quiet, keep them in Joburg over December. Take them to the beach either end Nov/beginning Dec. Every coast is going to be packed from mid-December...
 
Geez this late looking for accommodation. You either going to get very bad places or very expensive.
And its going to be busy.
I would say Southbroom. They also use Marina beach, which is San Lameer's beach and will still probably be busy but less than the rest. And its well kept.
Might find a house in Southbroom still available at a decent price, will not have sea views.
There is also a little unknown place. Surf and spray. They have different cottages from 1bed to bigger almost semi house like. They a bit difficult to find on these booking sites as each unit are most rented out individually. Like Cottage Abigail, Cottage Freddy etc.
They mostly have sea views and is one of the closest places to the beach.

Thanks for the suggestions JC.

It is late and our visitors still haven't confirmed dates. Will struggle with accommodation but hope we find something nice, possibly a cancellation.

We will see, if it's wildly expensive somebody else needs to chip in.
