New DStv package makes sports streaming services look bad

This is just a terrible DSTV sponsored article. They have been catching so much flak for their whole song and dance about nothing. How about doing a comparison of how much you pay for HBO content on Netflix vs DSTv...oh wait DSTv lost their contract with HBO, so they have none. Same principle.

Here's what DStv have to say about it, was in one of Jan's latest articles;


Du Plessis explained that these changes to DStv’s package were only the first phase. He said they had to keep the initial migration as simple as possible by retaining the existing product tiers.

“That is why it is a one-to-one transition in terms of what you had versus what you have now, while unlocking more value for customers,” Du Plessis said.

“If we had done it differently, such as creating a new package for all SuperSport channels or changing price points, it would have delayed our go-to-market timeline.”

Du Plessis said that was why this first phase was executed this way. “This is something we have been thinking about for a long time,” he said.

“We probably should have done it sooner, and we really wanted to get it into the South African market as quickly as possible.”

Asked whether the changes were too little, too late, Du Plessis said he does not believe that. He said DStv’s performance during the FIFA World Cup proved that.

“We had our best month in over ten years in South Africa during June. When the price is right, and the content available at the right value, customers will return to the platform,” he said.

Du Plessis said it was not too late to introduce these changes. It was simply something they needed to position properly with customers, he said.

“As Willington said, this is a bold first move. If you look at the level of change we are introducing to the market, it is quite significant,” he said.

“We will learn and evolve from this. If that means making further changes in the future, we will do so.”

Depends how you look at it. From a bad-history DStv perspective I agree, but from a "new kids on the block" Canal+ viewpoint I think we're seeing at least somewhat of a promising future.

From a Canal+ perspective they’ve entrenched what they’ve purchased rather than adopt their own established model. So sure, they’ve adopted it “in name” (having sport and movie/entertainment bundles) but not in actual offering.

Sure. But this way it's far less of a gamble for them, would rather see them feel their way into the existing market.

They've been at it less than a year, not bad IMO. This will require patience.
 
My apologies if this is the wrong place to ask this: does anyone know whether DSTV Supersport is broadcasting the Ultimate Athletics Championships starting today in Budapest? Can't find it on search at all.

No, apparently rights issues preventing it.

Free, but requires a quick mandatory registration/sign-up on their website.
 
They're punting the SA athletes, their event, time of competing at the meet all over their athletics threads on myDSTV but without saying if/where they're covering it

Aah, looks like it may be on DStv channel 236 Sporty TV as well, but it just mentions a road race...
 
I don't know what's worse, DSTV creating a sports bouquet and not including all sports or Donald Trump buying votes.

Its like have a all you can eat buffet but with limited portions.
