R30,000 saved driving an electric car for a year in South Africa

Except they seem to forget that I would also need to spend about R60 to R120k during that same time on car installments., on a car that is going to depreciate like it’s falling off a cliff - I’m okay thanks, I will spend that R30k on diesel with a smile. While planning my next family holiday I’m going on with a the money I didn’t spend on a new, Chinese EV
 
To many of us buying an electric vehicle is like betting on the ANC coming right. Bad bet.

The infrastructure really isn’t there yet.

And where it is, it often doesn’t work, works slow, the bays are full or someone forget to move their car while it’s done charging and parked in a bay.

But I still think EVs are a great option if you have a 2nd ICE vehicle

If you're a lazy farker use your LLM of choice to do all the heavy lifting to run the calculations/projections.

What is the total cost/km when you add in purchase price (on a like for like comparison), or if you consider my ice car is already paid off and will easily still last me another 10 years

That will be the real test of these EV cars - what will depreciation be like? Will there be a second hand market?
 
So 17 years for a return on investment. Buying on credit raises it to unfeasible.
 
Sold my hybrid daily car and bought a R350k EV full house cash. Saved over R3k in fuel costs in the first month. Occasional DC charging but mostly home charging. Only drove my diesel guzzler once in the last month. At R37 per 100km, vs R130 per 100km for the petrol hybrid, it's a no brainer.

Not even going to compare it the the cost of running a diesel SUV with sky high diesel prices which is going to skyrocket month end.

Low cost service every 30000km to replace cooling fluid, one pedal driving with regen and hardly pressing the brakes. Maintenance is a win too.

It's now my primary car. Depreciation is not a worry on a low cost vehicle. 8 year battery warranty is not an issue either as I never keep a car that long. And new gen low cost battery ev's are coming.

I meant new low cost sodium battery's are coming. Which should bring Ev prices down soon. And battery replacement reduced to 1/3 of current lithium battery's
