Frontier AI models threaten to upend cybersecurity as we know it, and there have been multiple incidents of models breaking containment during training and hacking systems without guidance or permission while avoiding human detection. Yet it seems there is still one thing that these extremely powerful pieces of technology simply cannot do: solve a CAPTCHA efficiently.

They cannot crack embedded code I wrote either... Gemini and Claude fail spectacularly at it.

How it feels trying to explain to the AI bros in my comments that code is faster than AI inference, so the fastest cyberattack possible is one that is automated with code. Something both hackers and AI can theoretically achieve, but so far no AI has come close to the fastest human-created...

AI basically lowers the barrier for mediocre attackers... handles lower-quality tasks faster and cheaper, creating operational noise, malware churn, and higher phishing volume.
 
And yet humans fail at them too…so the AI is hardly special.

Stupid “technology”.
