East London, one of South Africa's major port cities, is suffering a severe infrastructural collapse.

Ummm I'm sure both eSchitweni and Richards bay (at the very least) have rivers that formed the basis of their ports.

Also I can be damned sure eSchitweni has sewerage flowing directly in the water as well.

33% of our rivers are still in good shape, mostly because they are in nature reserves. So yea just about every river hitting the sea is a part of our sewage system.

Ummm I'm sure both eSchitweni and Richards bay (at the very least) have rivers that formed the basis of their ports.

Also I can be damned sure eSchitweni has sewerage flowing directly in the water as well.

Interestingly and surprisingly not. Although bordered by the Umlazi and Umgeni sewers ...errm ...rivers, the eSchitweni port/harbour itself is in a landlocked natural lagoon.
Richards Bay the same. They dredged Mhlathuze lagoon to build the port.

There are a couple of smaller rivers that drain into the cesspools...errrmmm lagoons , but Kugompoo is the only commercial port where vessels travel directly up a river channel to dock.
