Passport booking slot shortage at banks so bad that people recommend just going to Home Affairs

Been using Standard Bank for my HA needs. Works perfectly so far and haven't been in major queues.

Aaand reboot to get back online but have to rescan docs system has slowed to a crawl again
So all in, it took just over an hour for two of us to get passports and ID docs ordered. It's not the worst and the place is at least cleaner and less congested than I've seen in the past but man, they need to train some of their staff to smile. I guess I'd also be frowning all day with the system going down like that.

doesn't the old trick still work?

i.e. booking slots are only allowed 30 days into the future, meaning every day at midnight a new, entirely unbooked, day becomes available for booking

if you time it right and ensure you are up early enough to book that day before the rest of the country wakes up it's not that hard to secure a slot

the trick before that was much nicer until they blocked it though: you could manually edit the date range parameters in the URL to book a date further into the future than 30 days, there was always availability given that most people didn't use that trick

If they could roll out passport renewals at Capitec soon that would be awesome. I was just at Capitec today to apply for my Smart ID, no bookings, no documents.. spent around 3 mins with their self-service machine and done. There were a few people queuing to use the machine so about 10mins all in all. Do need to have an account with them though.

For my daughters first ID we had to go to the office in Cresta. Was not at all bad. Done in about 45min. Also had decent experiences at band branches for passports though. If you can get the appointment though.

Nedbank Cape Town, applied on the Thursday afternoon and by Sunday my new passport was ready for collection.
