South Africans don’t want delivery fees

The Online Retail in South Africa report for 2026 revealed a large gap between connected consumers and online shopping in the country.

And we’re not unique in that sense.

Honestly dont mind paying for delivery if I get what I am looking for.

Takealot pretty much collect, unless its a big thing (like a TV etc)
Amazon normally goes into a box which I collect after work near my home.
Bob Box is great for all those bobshop items (lots of lego parts and pieces from there)
Temu and Shein delivers direct to home, so does Lego Internationally

Most big things are free delivery.

I have to admit I dont use 60/60 but my neighbour uses it more than I have ever seen any friends visit. I simply walk 300m to my local checkers haha

I have no problem whatsoever paying for delivery. Nothing in life is for free. Also, more payment methods? Anyone with an SA ID and a heartbeat can open a bank account with a debit card these days. If you don't even have a bank account perhaps online shopping is not for you.

yeah the costs can be worked into the margins of the products themselves and collection can be free,
delivery to home address costs extra.

Did you know that the US has no national ID number? The closest they have is a social security number.

Given the rapid increase in delivery cost in general over the last few years, I am not surprised. People are battling and looking for good deals, very few online deals are worth it once the delivery fee has been added. Many people wait until their purchase exceeds the free delivery threshold before they buy.

Sounds like an entitlement you have. Every business owner can decide how to run their company. If you don't like it go somewhere else they are not forcing you to buy from their company

From that entire article, they pick something mentioned twice with no further information, for the headline?

Given the choice of getting in my car to buy something, paying for petrol, sitting in traffic, finding parking, paying for parking, or sitting on my arse waiting for the knock on the door ..... I pay the delivery fee with a smile.

And it doesn't matter how small the basket is, it's still has to go through the whole process and cost getting it to you.

It doesn't help if they just charge the sellers it instead - it means that you are still paying it, just without the transparency.

Sadly, not wanting them and not paying them is not the same thing - if they are not going to show them separately, they'll just be included in the pricing of the products.

And if you have a large order, you are paying it several times
