Only in ZA do we celebrate mediocrity with such pride.

"We didn't lose as much moneyas we did last year!! Yaaay"
"We destroyed ports and rail and killed millions of road users by forcing logistics onto tar roads!"
"We made 'some' money but nothing compared to the multiple years of losses! Party time!"

Still a ZERO being propped up by private investors who need to keep them running to be able to move their own product in and out of the country.

In Europe it is stagnating with slow overall growth, and a decline in specific markets, the US, China and India have reported single digit increases for the last year. Passenger rail is doing much better, and trucking seems to be taking over especially in shorter distance scenarios.

One would think that there would be an incentive to drive freight rail given the current global energy crisis, but seemingly it is a case of too little too late and typical short sighted behaviour from those who profit from these trends. Ultimately we pay the cost of systemic greed and exploitive freight arrangements.
Last mile delivery should not be anything more than that, the shortest possible distance needing to be covered by road. Again we the consumer pay the cost of maintaining those roads that are inundated by excessive road freight.

As consumers we also sit idly by and play with our toes and develop little more than educated opinions.
