Which Vehicle Maintenance Plan or Extended Warranty to get (or should I get Both) ?

on the contrary - VW want about R30 000 once-off to extend the Tiguan's Warranty beyond the 100 000 km / 5 year one that is coming to an end now

there must be a cheaper / more intelligent option in 2023
True, I own Golf 7.

Depends on the car, if you buy a car relatively new (below 20,000km) and look after the vehicle, I'd forgo the warranty or plans extensions.. unless it is like R5,000 ish. But if you buy secondhand VW TSI with DSG gearbox and don't know the history, I would at least extend the warranty or get aftermarket one for two years just to be on safe side

Disclaimer - I'm currently updating information on https://www.warrantyextender.co.za/ and thought someone might find this comparison useful. You can purchase a Once-off Warranty (cash) or a Monthly Warranty for ANY make and model of car. Typically these plans are administered through either Innovation Group (the same as your VW, Toyota or Nissan dealer plans) or through Motorite or Warranty Solutions. Each one has it's own unique benefit and sweet spot.

The Once-off warranty is identical to the plans you are offered when you buy a used car through a dealership - same dice! The Monthly plans are also good, but have limitations on when you can claim and the benefits all differ as the risk is higher for the insurer. I'm not going to go through the entire benefits schedule of all the plans - but for those of you shopping for used cars - know that you have at least 2 or 3 good options through the Warranty Extender site.

Take the money you would have spent on this and dump it in your home loan (or a quick access savings account if you don't have one of those).

Then when **** breaks and for servicing you use that money to pay for it.

When your loan term is finished act like it never did and dump your monthly instalment in there too, then use that money to buy your next car.

this, although it would be awfully tempting to use that saved cash on other things

Well one would assume adults who own cars can control themselves.
Absolutely 100% NOT true! Do you have any idea just how many of the fancy cars you see on the road are financed? And probably not in the "I had 50% upfront but needed the balance from vehicle finance" kinda loan. So many car owners make stupid vehicle purchasing decisions with things like Balloon Payments and then when they get to the end of their term - they just find themselves re-financing on a never-ending hamster wheel of car payments.

Car Repayments: Keeping South Africans poor since 194eva!

People are idiots, nobody was contesting that.

Same thing applies to those taking out insurance plans for every little thing and pissing their money away in the longer term.

Note that I did say people who OWN cars.
