Initially built in 1956, Kelvin Power Station is South Africa's largest power station not owned by Eskom. It has changed hands at least six times since 2001.

The recreation facilities have gone to sh@#! at one stage it was a pleasure to drive past the power station along Zuurfontein road and see perfectly manicured soccer fields and associated fringes.
