What is/has been happening in SAn sports administration?

Recently 2 olympian SAn swimmers have spoken out.

(see Swimming SA thread 'Tatjana Smith/Roland Schoeman).

Now, hot on the heels of the 2 olympians, investigative sports journalist Graeme Joffe, who fled SA after attempting to expose the 'mafia-like' rot from 2012 onwards, steps forward to shed light from his experience (he's speaking from outside of SA).

Correction to the 'R23 million' mentioned, in the Rugby thread.... where this interview was memory-holed.

Joffe was allegedly sued for R21 million - by SASCOC, in an alleged attempt to silence and bully him (allegedly... )

Ahem.... These are allegations, okay?

He also alleged that following a filing 7 years ago by SA Rugby CEO and World rugby exec member, Mark Alexander, that he could be arrested on landing on SAn soil. What for? Defamation.

👀

He can apparently say these things without the above punctuation mania, since he is saying them from the relative safety of being physically located on the other side of the Atlantic ocean.

Top-down corruption spreading like the cANCer it is here..
Yes, but I must say I listen to these guys 'n gals and I think to myself.... do you really think replacing them is going to make a huge difference?

What do you think Brian_G?

No idea what may work, Lex, so many abusers around now.

People on the ground need to get involved somehow, but it would mean a voting system of sorts.

Ofc, there are.

It makes sense, tho'.... that's where the biggest rewards are, right?

If you stop rewarding them they will stop coming.

By refraining from rewarding them?

All these federations are about the party not so much about the athletes.

Correct.

Any ideas on how to speed up a solution?

This has been going on since at least 2012.

Theoretically anyone can start a sports body or federation and if you are big enough you shouldn't have any problem getting recognised by international bodies.

But for someone looking to build something like that ethically its a massive amount of work and for the like that come in and destroy its a fat party.

That is music to my ears.

See @Brian_G... someone who knows/suspects solutions are not as tptb would have us believe(a million miles away/beyond our reach).

But who would come in and destroy, if they have to first be vetted for membership and explicitly invited?

They mentioned in the interviews how the Comrades marathon has gone private. and how it could be a blueprint for other sports. Water-polo, too, I think was mentioned.

Do you know much about that?

maybe my info is outdated but would that not mean you will not be able to compete on a international level you will technically be a free agent and not representing your country?
i unfortunately cant see this working for a lot of different disciplines maybe a few

I hear you, Peter, in that (initially) there may be very little buy-in.

But I would bet my bottom dollar, that any corrupt powers that be would be moved to soften their position when their sanitized media reports begin to be effectively undermined.

Have you watched the seperate interviews given by the 2 olympians, yet? (linked below)

These are mere weeks old. And they are a powerful anti-dote... not to completely get rid of the rotting head(yet), because as I say... what tends to happen is that the rotting head is the first to perceive their imminent demise and so swiftly change their tune, but, rather, an an anti-dote to the near-complete, continued media-muzzeling.

I predict this will be what happens next.

But sometimes, that head is so rotten, its hubris get's in the way of its own survival, and it doesn't adjust swiftly enough. Then it'll implode and the likes of Schoeman and Smith will be the backbone for a new generation of State sports administration.

So.... yes, it make take some more time. And they may be able to keep themselves on cut-in media life-support.... for a while longer.

Let's see what happens.

These 3 voices are most certainly not nothing, I can assure you. A R21 million filing and threats of defamation arrest should be evidence of that.

p.s. Hot off the independent press....

Tatyana Smith (who says she hasn't felt safe to speak out, using her platform.... until now... which validates Graeme Joffe's story):

Roland Schoeman (basically the same blistering critique of SA sports admin and compliant SAn sports journalism):

I can't imagine the mybb policy is to shut-down open discussion of corruption in SA rugby administration.

So, I can only conclude that who-ever is stifling the debate, on the Rugby thread, is maligned with mybb official policy.

Apparently only one side is permitted to give their view on the Baltimore match diverting from a 4 decade convention of no 4-test series officially recognized in RU. Let alone one that spans 2 countries.

Follow the money, where there is money there will be corruption.
We were discussing this on the Rugby thread, until a hall-monitor decided that was too much open back-n-forth.

I actually think that your statement suggests there is too MUCH money coming in, via SA sports administrators, rather than too little.

Imo, that(too much rather than too little) will be the case as long as there is an unnatural barrier to getting rid of uninvited middle-men).

For an example of the double-take, before speaking their minds, ex-springbok player and Stormers coach are asked whether the Baltimore match should ever have been played in Baltimore....

Robbie Flek's rection to the question, as though he had just been handed the poisoned chalice.... diverts to Stormers coach... who takes a minute to formulate what he's about to say, before doing a great job recovering from an awkward moment by being very diplomatic.

But there is no question a) both these guests are aware of potential fall-out of angering the rugby gods, and b) Jean de Villiers is a bit wet behind the ears, still, on corruption in SA sport. For him to blurt out that question, with such exuberance when everyone else knows to walk on egg-shells, suggests that. He wisely gauges it would be best to move on swiftly to the next item.

There is corruption in every sphere of our government because the cadres have a culture of pocketing everywhere they can as they feel if I don't pocket it someone else will.

Well said.

As long as sports fans agree to put a massive pile of cash in front of politicians(and their sports admins), turn the lights out and expect that pile of money to still to be there when the lights eventually come on.... it will continue.

The problem is systemic, and a fix ultimately requires involvement on the part of individual supporters .
