Woman ordered to pay back R1.031 million salary after faking her CV

lol, well that didn't go as planned

"The former employee also stated that she did not want to respond to the case or appear in court, claiming she had been forced to do so by her former legal team.

This response did not work out well for the former CIO, and the Labour Court ordered her to pay millions to the V&A.
This payment includes the R1.031 million she received as a salary, the R1,402 million and R464,000 consultant costs, and interest on the amounts.
She also has to pay the legal costs of the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, including counsel fees, on an attorney’s own-client scale."

The court must have been well unimpressed with her. An Attorney's own-client cost award is the highest level of costs a court can order a losing party to pay, and generally only happens when the court is rather peeved. Lol.

I'm sorry... But how, exactly, did we employ this clown?

What sort of incompetent buffoon said "YES" and how is said buffoon not being held responsible?

induced it to hire two IT consultants
Questions. I have many.

SIBONGISENI THOTSEJANE. From the publicly available court docs.

Wow!? Either a genius or a charlatan:

I don't know why they don't mention the ladies name in the article but here is the full court case:

The name is part of the problem, she kept changing it, making background checking impossible. In fact she even tried to BS the judge in open court!?

I read as much as I could of the transcript, but it goes on forever. A bit like the movie Catch Me If You Can, but much darker and less amusing.

I assume the V&A has to satisfy BEE requirements, which is how they were suckered by this imposter!?

The heading sort of implies that it's only the salary that she has to pay back, but it's not only that, it's the R1.031 million she received as a salary, the R1,402 million and R464,000 consultant costs, and interest on the amounts. Also, she also has to pay the legal costs of the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, including counsel fees, on an attorney’s own-client scale.

Plus years of legal fees! If you read the whole case transcript, it's an example of how to bankrupt yourself and become permanently unemployable, at least in the real world.

Unless you magically get a job working for The Presidency! I wonder when he will find out? Insert Shocked Face icon...

If that 1.01m is annual salary then it is no surprise they managed to attract a shyster

Must be, otherwise I cannot think that such a big enterprise doesn't have a strict vetting process in place.

I left Sasol's employment about 2½ years ago, currently called back whenever required for my area of expertise. Even in that capacity I had to undergo a vigorous vetting process, which included a criminal background check even after having been employed by Sasol for more than 40 years. I have to redo the criminal check annually to keep my access the the factory active.

The fraudster is now an advisor to Cyril Ramaphosa on the Presidential Commission on the Fourth Industrial Revolution. So she won't have to pay back a cent...

I cannot see any updates from that Commission later than 2021, so maybe they don't meet very often, nor paid very much?

Newsday article coming up. "Woman with PhD selling chicken in Khayelitsha to pay back legal fees".

The legal transcript says she has a house in Bisho, and the Commission lists her as representing the Eastern Cape, so probably not reduced to selling chickens, nor living in Khayelitsha...
