South Africa’s 10-year driving licence deadline has passed

You can see the biggest reason this was not ever contemplated was the loss of revenue, nothing about road safety, nothing about weeding out fakes, nothing about driver training, all about money coming in in large amounts.

Via TopAuto: "
Chiefly, the longer validity period will likely result in an awkward transition period for people with existing driver’s licences.

The DoT stated that all existing cards will only be valid for the current period and will expire on the date indicated.

This has sparked frustrations among motorists, who may have to renew their cards before the extension comes into effect."

I renewed my license card about a week before parliament approved the 10 year licences and was eagerly awaiting on it to come into full effect.
This means my licence card will expire in 5 years instead of 10. Logic dictated to me that all valid licences would be extended to 10 years once the law came into full effect.
Why is this not being done? More money?
