How do you normally pay for purchases in stores?

Good idea, but then the whole trip takes 10 times longer as they have to walk through the whole shop and throw a whole lot of unnecessary stuff into the trolley.

And have long conversations with every acquaintance you run into. In my mind saying hello in passing while not slowing down, and getting on with the shopping is 100% acceptable.

In the female mind that is rude, and you need to halt all activity, enquire about everyone's children, their friends, the weather, their health, reminisce about something and then finish off with 'we really should get together', before running into someone else 10m further down the isle.

Takes me literally like 2 seconds to tap with my phone or watch, and I'm normally waiting for the machine and not the other way around.

That too but there are some stupid idiots who have the app installed by kids in their houses and they find that specific moment to use that app and ask cashier to help because they frikking have no idea what to do.

Tired of reaching for your wallet?Take your wife along, I've discovered that if you look super busy and distracted when paying time comes then they often feel compelled to pay themselves in order to avoid unnecessary attention. Then you act all surprised and mildly upset about it.

Maybe we don't know many people but we hardly meet anyone that we know (let alone friends) when we go shopping. Very rare.

Edit. Having some cash on hand is always a good idea, esp in SA.

Not at all . I did the whole everything is "ours" thing long ago, not saying that it can't ever turn out well, but the reality is that it often doesn't, particularly when most of "ours" was actually yours alone and everything goes belly up for whatever reason.

There should a "ours", yours and mine. "Ours" should be fair and apply only to common interests/concerns.

If she needs new handbags every 2 weeks it's coming out of hers, not ours ,not mine.

Yeah I don't know enough about non-Apple Watches but I would expect it to work much the same where the PIN comes up when you take it off so it sounds like you are possibly wearing it slightly too loose.

Tap on my iPhone. I have set up Shortcuts and n8n flows (with CloudFlare tunnels) to automatically capture tapped transactions on a database in my home lab. Another n8n flow then WhatsApps me with the transaction details, and when I reply it stores a note, detailing the transaction, in the database.

They were some of the first.

What really surprised me was marketday at high school, for my grade 8. They actively encouraged the kids with stalls to have card facilities available.

And that being said, with Yoco & iKhokha supporting tap-to-pay on iPhones and Androids, most kids are covered with additional capital outlay these days.

lose vs loose... two different words with two different meanings, but the latter used often especially by non-English speakers when they mean lose....
Example: "Ag man, my jean pant can like to loose value"
