Zero security for power infrastructure in South Africa’s biggest city

Depends on where you are, in Dirtbin it average two to three a week within 5 km of the CBD with some lasting two to three days. Glenwood, Berea, Umbilo can't get through a week without losing power and water at least three time , some areas on the bluff go without for days at a time as well. etc.

Maybe coincidence, and an exceptional case, but Cape Town seems to be different. Shortly after reading this thread, I was buzzed on the intercom by the council, doing their quarterly mini-transformer inspection, on a Saturday morning! I had to let them in, since they have an easement for placement inside our security/electric fence. Years ago someone stole the earth/grounding cables, but since then it has been inside a palisade fence, under lock and key.

I'm in the Berea and only had one failure of 4 hours this month, this was 2 days ago, so got fixed in the rain too.

Then YOU are extremely luck, Councillor Fran Kristopher Reported 3MV faults yesterday affecting Bulwer/Glenwood part of upper Berea and Lower Congela under fault reference 8318914 and another affecting Bayhead, Bayhead North, Carrington Heights, Congella South, Glenmore, Glenwood, Maydon Wharf, South Rossburgh, Seaview, Umbilo East, University, Bulwer and Glenwood under fault reference 8327152 today. Thank your lucky stars you are not one of the people directly affected by the cities ongoing incompetence. EDIT:- I agree with the team doing an excellent job in the rain to try get the faults resolved though.

Yes, I got the whatsapp. I'm next to the university, sounds pretty in the middle of all that, all fine. In what way are they incompetent?

So CP is appealing while the city has its own JMPD literally stands for johannesburg metro police department, so CP cannot just drop an email "please patrol xyz frequently". How broken is the city that CP has to do an appeal ...

30 years of zero maintenance at municipal level (I am referring to the ANC led Municipality itself, not the teams doing the repairs)
