All the details about DStv’s new packages

Really has become about when, no longer about if.

Firstly they've opened the door a crack, can't close it again.
And Canal+ are clearly mostly focused on the Black market in Africa, look how many soccer / footie channels there are today. Now that local market has become rugby lovers...

Interest is spreading beyond our borders too, but it's all in the south for now

All those places are tiny shitholes. Does Madagascar even have electricity?

Dumbest decision ever to mess with logos. They have better fish to fry like offering premium decoder/satellite for R699 all in (access/pvr/xtraview) fee, no 24 month contract required.

Exactly. Unless they have some sort of plan to move away from devoders which I doubt.

The money they have to spend on bandwith for cdns like Akamai must be huge and it increases the more people stream.

I don't know much about satellite but AI reckons it's fixed costs no matter how many people you connect and doesn't increase the more people join which if true doesn't add up why it's more expensive.

They have little choice though given it's the future, why they have "favoured" it economically. I'm actually surprised they want to equalise the two price options so soon, I would hazard a guess that cost image won that battle.

Marketing streaming as cheaper because its an inferior product imho. Glitchy apps, shitty resolution, buffering sometimes when big sport event, no pvr etc etc. Instead, they should get through their thick skulls that their premium satellite package is overpriced and that's why people are cancelling. R699 for premium (including the added dstv tax of access fee whatever that is) on satellite and streaming is fair. They may aswell drop the other packages and just have premium and drop it to R599. That way they can have a few million premium subscribers vs a few thousand.

They are headless chickens with no clue. Their streaming attempt is pathetic with their shitty apps and random buffering. They should stay in their lane. You dont need uncapped internet to watch satellite.

Streaming is still shyte when they're busy, but there's been an improvement. They must know they need to fix that, international sport streaming options are on the increase as we know.

As for their plans to equalise prices, can't see them increasing streaming-only to do that so they must drop satellite users' prices 🤷‍♂️

They only competing with streaming services because their prices are too high. Headless chickens. Why would anyone subscribe to 4 different streaming services if they have 2 decoders and 2 extra streams meaning a family of 4 can watch all their own stuff?

Sort of agree there. It depends on what people are looking for.

Endless tug of war at the moment - Netflix with less to offer and not much about them liked now, MC adding streaming capable decoders and other streaming services options a few years ago, Amazon Prime and Apple upping their streaming game.

I thought MC was dying a couple of years ago, but on we go.

This is what has me most hopeful, quite a daring new catch-phrase

But we need to remain real as well, they're a corporation and corporates don't play fair...

Hope they didn't copy my cushion-avatar idea :unsure:

It would be nice if they streamed dolby digital like Netflix, Disney and Amazon.
