Two young guys feeling threatened by two old toppies who are unarmed yet aggressive does not add up. Also the one article says the old man had a knobkerrie, and other evidence says they had nothing. Which was it?

Well, that's good to know - so if someone advances on you with a knobkierie, you can blow them away. Noted! From AI: "The shooter, Onke Bongo, was acquitted of the murders of George and Wilma Koster. Judge Tebogo Djaje accepted Bongo's defense that he acted in self-defense, claiming the couple had allegedly advanced on him with a traditional fighting stick (knopkierie), causing him to fear for his life."
They were found guilty of fleeing the scene and failing to report to police and were sentenced to 5 years in prison, wholly suspended for 5 years on condition that they don't do it again.
Basically, something something privilege...
If above is true, it is complete travesty of justice and NPA has been incompetent. From AI: "The shooter, Onke Bongo, was acquitted of the murders of George and Wilma Koster. Shocking. Even with police bungling evidence, would acquital have been likely outcome?WTAF - state & police completely messed it up it seems. With every other police head involved in various crimes, it is no surprise.
Don't think you can blame the police here. The judge is there for a reason and is supposed to apply his mind. They fled the scene, that is is fact, and that alone should invalidate 90% of the crap they say. Something dodgy going on...Shocking. My point. An old couple threatening to beat me up is a non-event.Don't think you can blame the police here. The judge is there for a reason and is supposed to apply his mind. They fled the scene, that is is fact, and that alone should invalidate 90% of the crap they say. Something dodgy going on...
I tend to agree with you.Uhm, no. It's common sense. We live in a violent country. Road rage is not worth the cost.
Yeah I'd look closer into this judge. You're only allowed to use deadly when your life or those of others are in imminent danger. Not sure how a stick in the hand of an old man and woman justifies that in the judge's mind.Don't think you can blame the police here. Does that happen a lot?My point. An old couple threatening to beat me up is a non-event.

Well,Ridiculous. Who responds to threats of a stick wielded by old people with shooting? He could simply walk away. The NPA must appeal.
But the state said their evidence showed neither victims had weapons, that's the puzzling thing.Yeah, something feels very off about this ruling to me.
Even if the old couple both had knobkerries, I would hardly think resorting to a gun is an appropriate response for "self defence"

That's your driveway, it's private property. It's not a public parking lot. They intentionally entered your property with the intention to do something, and you don't know if the spade is all they have. And they're not 65 years old...Well,
some fellow forum members discuss when you can shoot someone wielding a spade in your driveway. Seems to be the african way lately
That moron failed to learn basic karate etiquette.I had an altercation a few years back with a very fit 60 year old guy with a black belt in karate, this guy had also been involved in multiple altercations before and after that where he was violent(this is only found out a long time after). So you can't really just say the guy wasn't a threat unless you were there and witnessed what was going down.
