The end for ProNutro in South Africa

“We preserved its nutritional benefits and produced it in a more environmentally sustainable way,” it said.
Yeah you made it by cheaper process/lower quality ingredient.
“However, we were unable to recreate the taste and texture that consumers associated with the original ProNutro.”
Changed the taste, consumers doesn't like it. I'm shocked.

Didn't they have the recipe?

Didn't they have the recipe?

Bad article is bad. It fails to address WHY they had to switch to a new recipe.

Afaik they 'could not maintain the old machinery anymore', with the articles pointing more to how the new recipe has less sugar, and how the new process and modern machinery has 12% lower emissions, uses 12% less packaging and 6% less water, and less about the cost involved in maintaining the old processes... leading me to believe that the move was more of a (likely irreversible) cost-cutting move. They struggled to maintain the old stuff, fine, and retooled the factory completely, thinking that the public would be happy with a new taste and different texture that the new machinery offered.

Bit sad really.

Oh they did...but the original was becoming too expensive to make.

Tried to make a cheaper version, but it tasted kak, so they just gave up.

Only Pronutro we liked was the wholewheat one, the normal ones tasted like cardboard paste.

The age old song out of Africa.

The toppies that used to run and maintain those WW2 era machines, all retired or died.

yes but at the same time those age old machines becoming harder to source parts

what i dont get is ...how does a new setup make it that much worse.

Didn't they have the recipe?
The truth will be that they started using cheaper synthetic ingredients and never went back, they just tried to make the new slop taste like the original product and couldn't. They still have the original recipe and know how to make it, they just won't because it is more expensive to make and impacts their profit margins, highly processed slop is the norm today. natural foods are extremely hard to find

what i find F-ing stupid when companies does this is

you closing a brand down cause sales low but you caused the demise to save cost now you have no more income from said brand

You upgraded the machinery costed you a ton of money but the revenue now sucks so you close it? makes Zero sense like someone failed at what ever they studied in uni

i stop buying ages ago cause it was expensive for so little in general a friend posted on whatsapp group how bad it was made me think oh well def not buying now.

Like pringles ...used to be R20 now R99 yeah i aint paying that dont care if the flavor still good.
Product What ever it is cost tiny more (10% more) but taste worse.. yeah no i stop buying its really simple. so if you go well sales are down after you changed something ...the answer is obvious
