I'd say there are more than a handful, I'd honestly say the vast majority of the worlds financial elite are dodgy AF, and focusing on the antics of one (or a few) is basically missing the real picture.

So, where do you get 5G service. I live in Pretoria and I do not get 5G. Also what about the farmer who has no cell service and who urgently has to call for help when he is attacked by some crazies fueled by the call to kill the boer, kill the farmer? We need Musk and his Starlink. We cannot keep on being the most backward country in Africa.

The halfwits saying we dont need starlink (beacause Musk intimidates them i think) just live in sheltered little cocoons.

And i bet they are the first to bitch and moan when they go away for a weekend and the internet is slower than a snail and they can barely make a tiktok about where they are staying and the cocktails they are drinking...

Where i work we get somewhere between 10 to 30mbps on a good day..more often than not its well under 20.

Thats vodacom... Mtn barely works. We have an external antenna 5m in the air.

That has to support 7 staff, wifi cameras and switches, alarms, credit card machines and then when we are busy another 20+ odd people all wanting to watch netflix or istagram or whatever. Its 2026. Decent connectivity should be available allover. But its not.

When the power goes off in the area then the networks are also offline because infrastructure has been stolen..repeatedly. So we have to use radios for.communication with neighbours and security companies.

We had starlink and it worked perfectly. So be it starlink or amazon or whoever, we need a reliable service that just works.

Well, don't you think SA's domestic affairs need interfering? After all, apart from India's caste system, we are the only country who still have race-based laws.

This is a good point - there are a handful of these rather dubious characters who think everyone else should play by their rules.
Many of them are well known for certain island "lifestyle" adventures (sometimes even being denied an invite because they are too cringe) . We shouldn't accept anything they say at face value

Wonder if Musk has agreed to the Regulation of interception of communications act, and if he will install permanent interception equipment for the government, I am sure the overlords will give him his license, if he does. It is after all the only way to get a license in this country, and all other providers have already bent the knee.

We have allowed licenses for other VSAT providers, there's no interception there. The interception draw-card is played here because Starlink threatens the big pockets of mobile operators and because they're worth Bn's and govt officials want a slice of the pie. No other reason at all...
