My local spar ia kak. Barely use it. Fridges hardly work. Have to open packets of meat to do a smell check.. Fruit and veg is generally low quality and left rotting on the shelf...cakes are left beyond their sell by...they dont care.

I’m in the middle of 2. One of them is pretty meh, nothing special, mostly serves the folks from the location. The other one is an incredible store. Great bakery, and lots of items from Europe that you don’t find anymore.

Our local one is owned by an a*hole who refuses to turn the aircon on in the summer so everything, including chocolate and produce, becomes a baked good.

I’m assuming that if you’re opening up meat to smell it before buying it that you’re taking it if it smells good. And if it smells off, that you’re reporting it to staff who return it to the fridge once you’ve walked away.

Lot of franchises so it depends on who is running it, my own experience with the two in my area is one was always badly stocked with substandard food the other is extremely expensive compared to PnP and Checkers but has decent food quality. The one in the next area over is excellent and has competitive pricing.
