No they don't, this is absurd from the outset. Maybe there's more in the plastic packaging holding it which you could easily change. Otherwise you're looking at most 0.1 grams * 200 million, so maybe 20 tons a year? Compared to an AI estimate for yearly plastic bag usage of 40 000 tons.

there simple and maybe has more control regarding RICA.

This is Africa, not everyone has the latest mobile capable of eSIM...what a totally out of touch, impractical,ludicruous suggestion!Just shows you how out of touch the pr8ck is.
This guaverment cant even get everyone to get smart ID's after 15 yrs FFS!

Africa? K i mean we are on a co.za site right now.. i know where i am.

my iphone 11 has esim...its old it works perfectly fine yet i have a physical sim and a esim cost me nothing extra.
Daughters esim on the watch cost a tiny amount (like tiny) perspective i guess.

and why the "choose violence" wow.

out of touch? mmmm thats why i said end up loosing a lot of phones what i meant by that is not a lot of phones have esim and i dont think its exclusive to top tier phones that are 20k plus.

The world is moving forward with this at some point anyway. besides everyone in SA has a phone like everyone. give it a few years and everyone will have esim phones all im saying.

Government <-- see what i did there unless you were trying to make a joke haha then.. dont create simcards. Networks do its up to them weather they want to do what ever they want with it with regulators permissions of course.

I had to pay monthly to use an esim in my phone, and I had to pay for a sim swop to move my esim to a new phone, so I just went back to a standard SIM card. It's just less cost monthly and when I get a new phone.

40% unemployed i thought we were higher than that. anyway again its not asking everyone to drop a 1k right now they gonna upgrade at some point in their lives they gonna have a phone that now works but its stuffed later on i.e battery etc at some point gradually the change is slow its called transitioning.

Its the same with i donno we slowly moving to electric cars not everyone is dropping 1 million for them some are good for them but gradually we headed there (or hydrogen) heck could take 30 years on that one who knows. and at some point those cars will cost less or more affordable

also a phone is a luxury item eitherway

reckon depends on what your contract is i cant remember what vodacom charges (its free on my package) but i know with my duaghter its an amount (i think i dont want to be quoted on this R30 pm or something stupid like that) (if anyone thinking wow rediculess its for tracking.

then again yes if my package was like R300 a month and im paying R30 for esim functionality yes 10% can be knocked by going back that makes sense and id do the same.

i do think the monthly charge is stupid yes i do but so is CLIP and we all paying for that last decades.

The 40% unemployed does not mean they don't have a job. just that they don't have a job in the formal economy.

A phone is most definitely not a luxury item. its a necessity to order to get work. I would say as important as access to transport.

a nice phone is a luxury.

Of the top 10 bestselling phones on Amazon by volume, a total of 1 supports esim and its the second most expensive one.
 
No we don't. SIMs get recycled for their gold. The real issue is that most people need two or three on different price plans to squeeze the most out of the offers. If only our operators will get with the 21st century and give us good and easy price plans so we don't need to hop around.

most just get tossed, as you can see them all over on the ground, like confetti after a big party, especially around month end, when a lot of people will change numbers to avoid creditors and exes.
