The roll out of bank branches offering smart ID services in South Africa has hit a major milestone.

Naturalised citizens are also still being turned away when trying to apply for Smart IDs. The whole thing is a joke. Smart IDs have been around for 10 years now and Home Affairs still seems incapable of changing their systems. There also appears to be issues with Smart IDs for people who are born South Africans but one of their parents is a foreigner also being refused a Smart ID. There is absolutely no way that green ID books are going to be abolished in 2 years time. It's simply not going to happen unless you want to make millions of people effectively stateless in their own country.
