Makro online marketplace sells fake SSDs in South Africa

When I bought stuff online in the early years of the internet using Kalahari. People thought I was crazy. Now all the normies are doing it, and these online shops have become scam-infested marketplaces. They no longer care the way they did back then.

Let me imitate the MyBB expit.

"I know they are but what about INSERT SUPPLIER"

Check this out on takealot: 2.5" STAT Solid State Drive 1TB/2TB/4TB - 4T

Check this out on takealot: 1TB 2TB 4TB SATA SSD Solid State Drive SATA3 - 2T

This review is the best.

Three stars for a drive that "crushes" your PC.
Jirre, I should get this guy to do my performance reviews at work:
"I saw RaptorSA show up for a meeting once, he was late, probably walked in after a funeral, 5 stars. He's a legend"

Was telling my brother the other day how f**Ing retarded online review for anything is, even doctors etc.
It's usually either 1 star or 5 stars 'cause the average normie is utterly incapable of nuance.

Shopping online at Makro is a shyt-show especially if you want something in store.

Signed up to their online shop many years ago to order a projector screen.
I have never received such an onslaught of random spam after a company sold off my data than I have with Makro online.

Never again.

I wonder what the "necessary action" includes, surely a criminal complaint?

Anyhow - this was one heck of an eye-opener video with far more sophisticated fakes:

I actually saw those on Makro's website while looking for some good deals in external SSDs that I wanted to get our son for his birthday.

Seeing those ridiculous prices, my Spidey senses immediately began tingling, and I am an outoppie. Someone in the technology environment should not have fallen for a scam like that.

But they do...
falling for too good to be true prices > common sense... always!

At this very moment I'm staring at a decent deal for a DDR5 SO-DIMM ram stick on FB marketplace.
Everything checks out, dude has reviews, seller badges, has sold multiple PC related stuff over years, profile was opened ages ago and personal profile looks legit etc. etc. and yet I'm still mentally preparing myself for getting scammed.

The rule has always been simple:
In the tech sector, if there's any massive shortage or price spike on any component, a "good deal" on said item should be treated as a scam by default until proven otherwise

On the Makro thing, also watch out for third party scammers.

Placed a R80k order for in stock items.
2 days later I get a phone call.

"I no longer have stock but can source the newer version at the same price, but we need to do that deal off site".

Of course of course, lets do that.

Refunded.

Got a few calls from this one oke trying to sell me R80k of stuff. Weird.

My last purchase from them online was a Logitech g304 gaming mouse. Within a month the mouse became faulty and I had to return it. This was when things went sour with them. Upon asking the return process, I was instructed to return the mouse to the closest branch. Which in my case is 120km away. So I just throw the mouse away as the trip was not worth it. Since then I have not purchased anything online from them.

This whole marketplace thing needs to be addressed imho especially when sold under the banner of a recognizable store brand like this as trust attaches by association immediately and their products are co-mingled with those of third parties.
