The former Vodacom and MTN executive who believes he can fix South Africa’s broken government systems

Well, let's see, the man is sailing into a headwind and there is a massive storm coming in. He is going to have to try navigating through institutionalized corruption, looting and incompetence at every level.

I must say he's got balls.... Maybe he seeing something that most don't..... But either way, would be interesting what he gets right.....

He is just looking to score nice packet for doing nothing and no one can blame him if he is unsuccessful.

Close to end of his tenure, he will give some interview, complain and exit like Ruyter. And then he will publish a book.

It is becoming boring AF.

Ah yes, a person who was given his job and wealth because of BEE now think he can fix the country. Being a token appointment is slightly different to actually doing the work!

How do you know if he was a token appointment? It looks as if he is suitably qualified?

He enrolled in a National Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering at Technikon Witwatersrand in 1986 and graduated in 1990.

After completing his National Higher Diploma, Mello attended Washington State University in the United States from 1991 to 1994.

During this time, he completed a B.Sc degree in Electrical Engineering. Mello was a member of the Tau Beta Pi Honor Society and vice president of the African Student Association at Washington State.

He went on to complete an M.Sc at the same university. He began his thesis, entitled “Low-bit rate video coding using arithmetic coded trellis-coded quantizer”, in 1995, and graduated with a Master’s in 1997.

Mello’s fourth qualification came from the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS). He completed an executive development programme: business at GIBS in 2008.
