An unannounced oversight visit to Kempton Park SAPS on September 29 has raised questions about the resources available at the station, amid heightened policing operations announced following the discovery of women’s bodies across Ekurhuleni.

DA MP Ian Cameron said the visit found “no visible sign at station level” of the additional policing capacity that he said would be expected following government’s announcement of a policing “lockdown” in Kempton Park and surrounding areas.

Cameron said the government announced on September 15 that police visibility would be significantly increased through Operation Shanela, with enhanced operations planned for Kempton Park and surrounding areas.

Where's the police minister and commissioner?

Where's the police minister and commissioner?
Well the current one is sitting at home receiving a cabinet salary after being implicated in criminal corruption, and the acting one is
doing what he does best. Lecturing everyone on why COCT cannot have its own investigative police.

Nope.

Taxpayers have paid more than R6.18 million in ministerial remuneration to Senzo Mchunu and Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia while Mchunu has remained on special leave.

The combined amount of R6,187,364.48 covers the period from July 2025 to August 2026 and was disclosed by Cachalia in a written parliamentary reply to Umkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) MP Emerald Madlala.

Cachalia’s remuneration package cost R3,024,834.58 between August 1, 2025 and August 31, 2026, while Mchunu’s amounted to R3,162,529.90 between July 14, 2025 and August 31, 2026.

I might add that nothing is stopping Ramaphosa from firing Mchunu.
