No, it won't be easy and in some places the rot won't even be reversible.
exactly this, does Zille really think she can right the ship in JHB? I mean even if she gets a supermajority (unlikely)
does she actually have the authority and foresight to replace entire departments that are nothing but glorified mafias and criminals?
Once saw an article/study that claimed it took the DA 8 years to turn Cape Town around, once they fully ousted the ANC.
But, Cape Town was not nearly as far gone as what JHB is.
There might be some quick wins, and hopefully they can do enough to at least ensure they keep control past the next election.
exactly my Point, CPT luckily still had some people who valued well run, clean and maintained cities,
probably because of all the tourists and foreigners who came for other things, JHB I dont think is so lucky,
JHB attractions consist of things far outside the city like Kruger, otherwise only things related to Business and work
and even then CPT has its own, making JHB increasingly irrelevant for practically everything IMO
for instance Amazon, why only a CPT office, no JHB office whatsoever,
dont get me wrong would love to see JHB shine as it did when I first got here in the late 90's, but its decline has been going on for a very long time and nobody seems to really care at this point,
even if Zille wins, it will take a herculean effort to turn JHB around IMO, and all it takes in one little no confidence vote from all the people with vested interests in keeping JHB as filthy and dilapidated as it is, for there to be real change, I think Zille ust demolish things and thats a tough ask.
