D-day for people with rooftop solar in South Africa

Panel wattage has increased for the same amount of real estate at lower the price you paid 5 years ago
How much? 3%? His only solution is more batteries and more efficiency like a heat pump.

You can get for just Under 2k for 700W panels , 5 year old install I'm guessing it was under 500w panels ?
That's what 40% is it was 500w more if less wattage

I don't disagree even if increasing the PV he still needs batteries and more efficient appliances

700W panels are not the same size as 500W ones. If the roof is full of 500W, replacing with new panels will only yield 3% more power, which is an expensive "upgrade".

might be time to add a 4th 14.4 kWh battery to our office then.

currently we are wasting around 30% of our solar production because of how slow the COCT SSEG process is.
What's the ROI on the special meter? Also, won't you still be wasting if you're only allowed to feed back 3kW max?

We can do 3kw back to grid for about 6 hours every day for the 3 months in summer, and we use a lot of power in winter when our solar does not do much, so last time I calculated it, it was about 4 months. an extra battery return was about 14 months, but that was when the packs were R60k.

1620kWh? How much they pay per kWh?

AFAIK, 550W is the sweetspot for R per W.

Well that's if his current panels are 500w, we making a lot of assumptions, plus lots of options we can give but we assuming a lot, with little information, like no roof space he might mean no North roof space,🤷‍♂️

But the the thing we can both agree on no matter the issue lifestyle and energy efficiency can probably help the most.

Anwhoo So D day is here we not see what claims eskom tries to bully us with today

All I'm saying is that if the roof is full with 5 year old panels (any wattage), replacing them with new ones (any wattage) will only yield 3% more power due to new panels being 3% more efficient than the old ones.

Also, not very good from a ROI POV. Panels should stay for 20 years.
