UK Politics: (the battle of the YouTube channels)

As much as Temu Tommy Robinson deserves to be in the nick, I still can't understand how his bail was denied, and 5 guys caught in an apparent foiled terrorist incident - which involved an anti-terror response unit, including evacuating 85 homes for multiple days - simply got to walk out on bail almost immediately. Surely, if they're still persons of interest in a terrorist incident (the police still haven't confirmed it isn't one - some of the people only started going back to their homes yesterday), and have had restrictions placed on their movement, the best place for them until this all blows over is a cell?

Even if all they're potentially guilty of is trying to steal a bit of diesel, multiple vans indicates it was going to be on an industrial scale from a military base.

I mean, every judge that locked people up during the riots, etc, and every immigration judge who let rapists or drug dealers stay in the UK has been white, too. It's hardly surprising.

Yes, but there was much grinding of teeth because the judge who denied him bail on his initial appearance was Muslim, so of course that was leapt on with great indignation.

It continued after he was denied bail a second time, until it was pointed out that the second judge was not a snack bar patron.

And then the Lord appeared to Danny in a vision, saying "Go thee out on the waters, and stabbeth the boat of the strangers who have been evil in my eyes and are deserveth of snuffing it, in my mercy"

And Danny did go out upon the waters, and smited the boat of the enemy, and was rewarded with free accommodation and endless begging social media posts.

Temu Tommo has been charged and appeared before a court, the court decides on bail on the facts of the charge.

The diesel thieves have not been charged and haven’t appeared in court. The police released them on police bail while investigation continues, the police decided not to charge them yet because it’s apparent it wasn’t likely a terrorist incident and it needs to be established what crime has been committed.

Police bail is an apple, court bail is an orange…

Quoting an article and comment from the head of counter terrorism
The men were arrested under the Explosives Act, but were then further detained under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act rather than the Terrorism Act.
And further comment
But Dennis Kavanagh, a criminal barrister, said the decision showed that, rather than doing something wrong, the police were “acting properly and lawfully now and avoiding a judicial review later”.

Let’s see what details emerge but reading various articles it seems that some of the initial info release was sketchy and without evidence these guys could not be held. Bail doesn’t prove anything at this point.

Hmmmm, not so sure about that.

The way it’s worded Mr Iranian isn’t one of the famous five

The 27-year-old man was arrested in Westminster, London. A second man, a 26-year-old UK national, has also been questioned under caution, and two properties in the area have been searched.

Five men in their twenties who were arrested near the Gloucestershire airbase on Sunday remain on police bail. All five were UK nationals from London.

It's been months since the UK got a new PM and I still don't know his name. I looked it up once and immediately forgot it. Worse, he looks just like his predecessor, but with dyed hair. The Brits might as well have invented a system of anonymous governance, where their "leaders" are so forgettable they barely register, not that any of it matters anyway.

Perhaps it would help if a midget transgender hunchback became prime minister next? That might be more memorable for people with cognitive difficulties, although possibly traumatic for Larry the Cat.

The only current comparable contender is a chap who resembles a frog, but his PM chances seem limited.
:X3:

Hsven't you got any semi-sane Poms left there? Folks like Churchill? At least the worst he did was trying to swim the Mighty Apies ... when he could have stepped across it.
