Luckily all our salaries are also increasing by 8%.

Dear Client, Discovery Health's weighted average increase for 1 Jan '27 is 8.2%. Your option increase will be 8.9%.Further info will be shared.AonSA FSP#20555

It’s bad enough hearing today that R30 won’t even get you a litre of 95 next week and now these increases are coming to mess up your budgeting even more.

It’s pathetic. I really hope their competitors improve because these increases are not sustainable.

Come, now, folks.

These poor schemes are struggling!! CEO and EXCO need bonuses or they may have to give up caviar *entirely*...

Discovery's offices are basically a shack!
it gets even worse, they may have to slum it and downgrade from white truffles to black truffles.
we should have at least a bit of empathy for them being subjected to as dire circumstances !

It is madness, even just a basic hospital plan is going to be R5k in a few years
And as witnessed in that other thread about a medical aid I can't remember the name right now - it seemed like switching exposed you to a period where you're not covered. Not sure if it was specific to that ME or not. Made me feel a bit trapped at the time wanting to change. Now they just force these price hikes on you.

Apparently it's not actually always the case and they will tell you upfront before changing whether that will happen.
Because if there was always a mandatory waiting period with no cover it would make it neigh impossible for anyone to move between providers.

Now I don't support the comrades' NHI plans, but these MA increases are getting ridiculous and they are not doing themselves any favours in the public mind.

And what is this gobbledegook from Discovery:

“What matters is how effectively a scheme manages those pressures. Discovery Health Medical Scheme has consistently contained contribution increases within a medical inflation corridor of CPI plus 3% to 4%, reflecting a disciplined approach to balancing affordability with long-term sustainability.”

CPI plus 4% is such sugarcoating from Discovery, just say the truth that it's more than double inflation on some of their plans.

well keep just the chronics and hospital like costal core and MAX your gap cover. Cheaper. Pay cash for Drs outpatients because the medical aid saving is just your money anyways and itll get hammered by everyone.

You can negotiate with your Drs when it comes to cash they will drop their price. Medical aid they will bill like R1k R750 for GP but cash they will take R300 R400

Inflation is not 4.x percent. All of the big expenses like food, fuel, electricity, travel etc are way above that.
