The anc were, and are a terrorist group and nothing will change their ethics and culture.

The all act the same. Just like "Palestine" can throw stones but cannot catch them.

The kill the whites totally fall withing their plans for SA so they will not stop the narrative or the comrades.

the usa really should stop continually meddling in the affairs of other nations and rather spend some time in cleaning out the mess in their own backyard before mounting the soapbox.

I always find it fascinating...

The ANC loved the meddling of the USA when they were not in power.

Now, they hate it and people like you always make this same comment.

The USA has always been doing this they created another failing African country they might as well fix the mess they helped create.

Don't know why Rama says he can't say it's hate speech. It would be his personal opinion and he's entitled to express it.

It doesn't defy the Constitutional Court ruling because it's not like he's trying to push/sign laws that prevent the singing of the song.

Obviously it has no legal binding, but it's something simple that can be done to satiate Trump.

As the president of the country, it certainly would not just be his personal opinion. The court has ruled that it's not hate speech, for the president of the ruling party to flat-out disagree with a court ruling doesn't set a good precedent.

Despite what the court ruled, it is somewhat hard to accept that a chant that explicitly calls for killing of white farmers is not hate speech.

What is your opinion?

He probably should have done so already. If some white person did he would have likely responded as part of the general outrage.

Being instructed by a foreign power to do so will almost guarantee he doesnt do it. Understandable to an extent, but he should have condemned it as a president interest in nation building.

The concept of America's backyard is concerning themselves with the affairs of other nations.

Presidents are allowed personal opinions and can state it as such.

The court has ruled that it's not hate speech, for the president of the ruling party to flat-out disagree with a court ruling doesn't set a good precedent.
Why? They're separate branches of government.

The ANC had disagreed with court decisions on numerous occasions. They did recently with the IEC And their electoral candidate submissions for example.

He can condemn the spirit of the chant without going against what the courts have ruled. He would certainly not be quiet if the races in the chant were reversed.

It shouldn't have got to this point where a foreign power gets involved.

For me, thats the most frustrating part. A very simple condemnation (even though it has no legal standing, or anything) would have done something for nation building, but instead he goes out of his way to not condemn it which ultimately does more for dividing the nation.

I think that song is very problematic and it really shouldn't be sung. Anytime the government explcity criticises a court decision makes me nervous though.

How often do you see president's publicy prefacing what they say as "my personal opinion" on a political issue.? And it's clear that the US don't want him to give his personal opinion, they want him and the ANC to condemn the song as hate speech, in direct contradiction to the Con Court ruling.

Why? They're separate branches of government.
Yes, for now..

The ANC had disagreed with court decisions on numerous occasions. They did recently with the IEC And their electoral candidate submissions for example.
Yes, and am not a fan of that either, it's one thing to suggest that they disagree, but for the ANC to flat out contradict a court decision would make me very nervous.

The ANC doesn't sing or encourage the song anymore, I think he realises if the ANC flat out condemns the spirit of the song, it means that the EFF and MK will sing the song more often just to stick it to the ANC.

Perhaps a certain foreing power should respect out court's decision, but it's not like Trump even respects the decisions of US courts.

The USA (Trump) is 100% using the SA "Afrikaner refugee" narrative for their own personal political gain, I don't think they actually believe anything they say or that it actually matters to them.

But what is also true is that they are not threatening SA with a war or trying to imperialistically enforce their "will" with economic sanctions etc. What they are saying is do what we tell you or we stop giving you free stuff. Seems like that is within their rights?

So far they have only threatened to target individuals - no real economic sanctions. I think the big thing would be of we are dropped out of AGOA - which has a real impact. But even that is not a ban on trading with the USA it just means we don't get preferential treatment anymore and are free to compete with everyone else for US business.

I think this is where the truth mostly lies. Anything for votes.

Yup, I think in secret, they probably realise that it's hugely problematic, but everything they do has to be weighed against what opposition reactionaries might do to steal their precious votes away.
