Bad news about blocking South Africa’s new speeding fines

“There have been attempts to stop the implementation of AARTO, which is a revenue-generation project for SAPO,” they wrote.

That's all this is.

However, the High Court dismissed SALGA’s application based on a lack of urgency, and SALGA said its case would be argued at a later date.
Doesn't sound like anything was fended off.

The BRP said that the Post Office had achieved an 80% overall service-level agreement (SLA) performance in its AARTO duties as of 31 August 2026.
Doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

Considering they've been doing it for 15 years in JHB and they've never managed to deliver a notice in time. Often 6 months later, I got notices for the same fine that was 6 months prior and paid.

““Using electronic communication channels, including SMS and email, motorists will receive secure, legally served notices with improved speed, efficiency, and traceability.”

There’s going to be an absolute ton of spam, phishing emails and syndicates exploiting this.

Also why do you need SAPO to send email and sms? Everyone does this even AWS?

I'm wondering the same thing. And funny they mention it, but SMS and email isn't regarded as secure.

More of the same incompetence, I generally just ignore unless summons are served.. which hasn't happened in decades here.

True, it'll be exploited.
As it is I keep getting R210 Natis fines that if not paid within 24 hours will be doubled then tripled, so at this point I owe
R 314 eleventy and four but still only R210 until tomorrow where it will be R450, but tomorrow never comes.

AARTO Infringment Notices are supposed to be delivered by "Registered Mail". The current practice of mailing the infringements to the recipient by normal mail is not in compliance with the act. You are fully entitled to completely ignore any and all such notices.

Who is going to enforce this? I could mostly go anywhere and race as much as I want. How are they gojng to fine me? Cops? Lol sure

SAPO BRP's are clearly scrambling after their attempt at trying to monopolise the sub 1kg courier market failed spectacularly.
