US Politics: Catering to Iran

I'm not too heavily invested in US politics, but in the case of the Reps, isn't there a bit of cult of personality around Trump at the moment, and once he is gone the MAGA acolytes might lose their way and/or tone things down? If there is talk of rank-and-file Republicans starting to distance themselves from Trump already, surely even the likes of Hegseth and Vance, who may have ambitions of being president, will be aware of this and thus willing and ready to tone things down.

A case of everyone going full retard at the moment because of Trump, but once he is out of the equation they just go back to vanilla conservatism.

I hope so. A break from the current insane moron administration would be rather cool. One would think a return to "normality" would be the likely outcome, but it's still a bit concerning that there were sufficient idiots to elect Trump in the first place.

Harris wasn't selected by Dem. primary voters though. She'd never have won if she had done so. Newsom is a bad centrist candidate because there are many, many scandals in a place like California and it's pretty easy to paint him as a coastal lib (because he is).
Yep, newsom is almost indistinguishable when compared to a Cuomo, JD Vance or Marco Rubio.

He is captured by the old money capitalists.

No, the net result was millions ended up in the US despite the apprehension/deportations!

You're like Champ over in the SIU thread bragging about the gov recovering R100mil when trillions were stolen.

So Biden apprehended more people trying to cross illegally than Trump did, and you call it "open borders for illegals".

Now you are saying that because Biden let people with legitimate visas in, aka legal entry permit holders, that's "open borders for illegals", even though, again, he deported more illegals than Trump did.

And talking about visas, Trump sure is doing a great job on that as well. Tourism is dropping "tremendously", by levels "nobody has ever seen before".
Do you see the fact that people don't even want to go to the US anymore as a win?

Oh and I almost forgot: You're like Champ over in the SIU thread supporting the ANC because "Zuma counts so good". Did I do that right?

Yeah, that is a concern.

I know in general politics in the US are toxic and they have the whole ''culture war'' driving this, so maybe a bit optimistic that things are toned down.

Trump won the Republican nomination, and I'm sure party insiders must have known what he was all about. So they anticipated that he was what Republican voters really wanted.

Hopefully his brand of politics isn't what they want anymore...

Yeah those people have likely never been conservative. The ones who were, have jumped ship a while ago.

The MAGA that's left don't seem to have any thoughts of their own whatsoever.

They are not "going full retard", they simply are fully retarded.

Under Bider the border inflow exploded due to his administrations lax policies, it was a free for all.
Very high encounters → large numbers processed into the U.S. pending immigration proceedings → some subsequently removed/departed.

Trump, Very low encounters → very few releases into the U.S. → substantially more immediate enforcement/removal.

Biden ignored all his advisors on his border policy, he ignored the deporter in chief telling him it's gonna hurt the party in upcoming elections and then he ignored more than 2/3 of the population that said he's doing a schit job with the border.

Yet here you are telling us what a good job Biden did with the border.

EDIT:
CBO estimates that approximately 6.53 million people were added, net, to the “other foreign national” population during calendar years 2021–2024. This is the closest federal estimate to the number who entered/overstayed and ultimately remained in the U.S. without permanent legal status, after accounting for removals, emigration and people obtaining legal status.

Biden added 6.53 million illegals to the population, during the Obama administration the OFN numbers did not change, ie very few illegals were added to the population, under Trump the OFN population has decreased slightly. If you cannot see the effect of each administration on the net numbers of illegals then I dunno how else to put it.

The Economist (a known anti-Trump publication) credits Trump for the calm at the border and also stated that under Biden, anyone could walk over the border.

Claiming asylum is not a loophole, it's a completely legal process that exists in almost every country. The fact that it took so long to process claims was not Biden's fault.

I'm sure you remember the bipartisan border bill that Biden championed which would have solved all of these issues and more, which Trump told his lackeys to vote against because he didn't want Biden to take any credit.

Just another GOP scam.

The one at the end of his term where they went oh schit the people are not happy with the border situation let's placate them with something, people didn't fall for it.

Why did the massive influx start with his administration? Why not Obama? That influx could have been curbed immediately if he wanted to but they didn't, instead crap like sanctuary cities became a thing harbouring illegals. If he wanted to stop he could have done what obama, trump etc have done and signed off on an executive order.

Let's not pretend that we don't know that most of Trump's executive orders are illegal.

And many of those that are technically legal are only legal because of recent supreme court decisions which grant Trump way more power than any president has had before him.

You also conveniently seem to have forgotten about Covid, which at first massively reduced immigration and subsequently created a massive spike in immigration. That is despite Title 42 (deemed illegal by courts) being in effect until March 2023.

Biden didn't "open the border to illegals" or have an "open border policy" and you know it.

It's just one of those things that republicans say because they heard it repeated so many times they just accept it as fact without even giving it a second thought. Like parrots.

Back in the real world it's Republicans who continuously block any attempt at real immigration reform. And no, "build a wall" is not real reform, it's a comic strip for morons.

The people never picked Harris.
Doesn't change my point about her being a centrist and not part of the leftwing. Your point was they should go for centrist candidates just pointed out 2 centrists who lost . So why are you convinced a centrist would win.

Doesn't change the fact that she is a centrist and lost. The argument is centrist candidates would win. There is no evidence supporting this view.
