South African capital city refuses to let solar power users go off-grid

More and more of this sort of thing will crawl out of the wood work in the next while as more and more people give their municipality the middle finger and they start losing significant revenue.

On 22 September, he visited the relevant office and had to wait an hour for a supervisor to hear his request. He alleged she flat-out refused.

“I reiterated that this is my property and I insist, she said, ‘tough luck, we do not perform grid disconnections’. She referred me back to the electricity service, which had referred me to her.”

She then told the resident she had issued an instruction not to disconnect anyone whose account was up to date. His ticket with the city was subsequently marked off as “completed”.

His first mistake was not recording the entire thing and then posting it across all social media. Naming and shaming her publicly would have sorted the matter out pretty quick
 
Submit plans for massive alterations requiring the removal of the box and line. Never do any alterations and refuse to allow the morons on your property again.
 
Just stop paying, and wait for the court case. You will probably die before then, though the power will be off within 3 months, and every time your date comes up ask for a continuance, and get another 5 years of waiting.
