The dark side of Eskom’s load-shedding victory

That's what happens when you discourage people from using your product. Eskom's biggest mistake was shortsighted increases. Now they're sitting with a surplus going to waste.

I still see new solar panels going up on my neighbourhood every few months. Should be noted that most SSEG installations are behind a prepaid meter, which means they have to limit their production if the batteries are full. So what is actually installed and what is produced will differ. That said, for a typical install, a households can expect to reduce their use by at 90%. Which means metro's and municipalities will already be seeing a decline in revenue for their biggest income earner.

Yet another own goal by the ANC.

And according to that article, management had very little to do with doing away with load shedding.

In 2024, the last year in which South Africa experienced substantial load-shedding, Eskom generated 204,807 GWh. In 2025, when load-shedding started to decline, it produced only 200,082 GWh.
That figure is set to decline again in 2026. If Eskom’s improved supply alone was behind the near elimination of load-shedding, its generation should have increased.

Tell that to those who keep insisting Eskom's "turnaround" is due to maintenance even with the figures saying something else.

I wonder how much money Eskom could have saved if it didn't pay out bonuses to all the bonus chasing execs who were flat out ignoring the contributions of private citizens to the end of load shedding left and right, making big threatening self-aggrandising public statements after load shedding ended in the pursuit of bonuses. A massive public smack in the face. When they did NOTHING to earn it. Nothing, other than essentially dissing joe public. Who they can least afford against them.

Well I hope it was lekker, because now it's just money wasted. Down the drain. That's for sure. Worse. Money spent on turning the hand that feeds them against them. How's that for a "genius" move. Rofl.

It's pretty natural, right? Burn people badly enough and they don't like you. Do it enough, then they won't piss on you when you're on fire. It's one of those things normal people with functional brains learn in the first few years of life.

"The people's champions"... Ya right.
